Hi! I'm Specialized Search Dog Gabe
“To me, dogs bring more than just their nose,” Shuck said. “You have a dog out there that’s trained to do a mission, to find bombs, to find bad guys, but then also, you’re able to bring that sense of comfort and home to Soldiers. … They’re able to touch Gabe and kiss Gabe and love Gabe, and that’s just an amazing feeling.”

I'm a Yellow Lab who came from a pound in Houston, TX where the military adopted and then trained me.
I have proudly served this great country with my dad in Iraq. He tells everyone that I'm a hero. I guess we both think each other are heroes!!
My dad says that I've had and has such an impact not only on his life, but American Soldiers in general. From Ft Lewis, WA, to Ft Bliss, TX and from Ft Leonard Wood, MO to Ft Hood, TX. He calls me a hero dog.
I started my duty in 2006 when I deployed to Iraq. I was fortunate enough to work with some truly amazing soldiers. My job was to find hidden guns and explosives and to help keep our soldiers safe. While deployed, I completed over 210 combat missions with 26 finds of explosives and weapons. I also visited wounded troops in combat hospitals and visited children in elementary schools.
I was selected as the American Kennel Club Heroic Military Working Dog in 2008 and was the runner up in the military category for the 2011 Hero Dog Award. I retired in 2009 after a very distinguished career earning over 40 awards and coins of excellence for my work. What I do is truly a love for my country and the people of the United States.
My dad and I continue to educate children about respect and the importance of staying in school and we hope to represent the Military Police in a very positive way for years to come.
I just want to welcome all of you and thank you for your loyal friendship. I could never have won the 2012 AHA Hero Dog Award without all of your love and support.
